A Jew and his sandwich

Honestly, if I had to live in New York again, I’d probably gouge out one of my eyes. You’re right about the food though. With only a few exceptions (Rami’s, and the late, lamented Ruth’s Kitchen), the food here needs a lot of work.

Only pastrami I’ve noticed around here is at The Refuge (original in San Carlos, second branch in Menlo Park.) I’m vegetarian, so I’m only there for the Belgian beers and a salad while my wife has the pastrami, but she’s fairly pleased with it. (There are other places in Yelp that have pastrami, but I haven’t tried them.)

See my comment above: The Refuge. Does not disappoint.

Edit: Sorry, responded to wrong comment. This is for the commenter looking for good pastrami on the Peninsula.

Well. I am looking for good pastrami. So I certainly don’t mind

I spent a couple of years searching for anything vaguely Armenian and nearly gave up, before stumbling into Lebanese Taverna. (I say this as someone who was hella desperate for lamejuns.) If you go to their store, not the restaurant, they sell them by the dozen (boxed, frozen, still tasty).
The other place is Asadur’s in Rockville (grocery store more than a deli, a bit pricey, but good cheese).

There are a couple of Armenian food festivals, run by churches, in MD and DC.

There are a couple of other places, but they’re in strip malls in the Huntington area or out by Dulles. They may be named for tax purposes, but I have no idea what they’re called.

Sorry, maybe I missed it, but sell what by the dozen? Genuinely interested. I’ve been to a couple different Taverna restaurants, but not the grocery. Didn’t know they were Armenian.

I’ll keep an eye out for the festivals.
