A journalist finally uncovers the root of Trump supporters' anger

Of course you don’t, ITS YOUR OBSERVATION.

I suspect President Trump would prefer FBI protection to Secret Service protection… seeing as he already has the former.

They’re ‘kind of’ a lot of things. Good at their jobs isn’t one of them.

Sexism makes a great dodge though. Totally changes the subject from the corporatist DLC agenda. It’s why Gore lost, and if Clinton loses, it will be why.

You mean it wasn’t Nader’s fault? Gasp!

If Clinton loses, I fully expect the establishment Dems to attempt to blame it on Bernie. Despite him campaigning in the primary with one hand tied behind his back, in order to avoid damaging Clinton in the general.

Bernie isn’t even running, and the literal Bernie Or Busters who will write him in are few and far between. If people don’t want to vote for her, that’s between her and them.

They’re really not as stupid as you think they are. The establishment is well in touch with him and (unsure if you know) he is campaigning and fundraising for Dems nationwide. They will not blame him for anything and if she wins, he will have plenty of ears and allies.

Yeah, he collapsed under any scrutiny.

Gaffes aside, who thinks hiking is equivalent to fingering a mountain?

Racism? Sexism? Hatred? Socioeconomic displacement? Bell-curve distributions?

And why shouldn’t they support Trump? Hillary is essentially running as the candidate of the poor and of Wall Street.

Racism? Sexism? No cohesive policies? A lack of understanding of how politics and business actually intersection?

Any number of reasons, actually.

And the middle class. Hence why she has widespread support from all.

Running against a fascistic madman doesn’t hurt her support either

Just the whole "she only loves Wall Street and [whatever shitty “welfare state”/black people reference was being made by lolipop] did need a reply, well beyond all classes thinking Trump is a poor human.

Shorthand for writing Clinton supporters off as either elites or people who want free stuff. It’s easier than actually thinking about it.

Those “strapping young bucks” and their T-bone steaks!

YOU KNOW THE TYPE.

Sad!

I think it’s very dangerous to chalk Trump’s support up purely to racism and misogyny.

There are actual issues that these people are upset about- Shit that affects them every day, like the one and only employer in town closing up shop and basically sending the entire area into a little great depression.

So when someone like Trump comes along and says “yeah, you got screwed over, but I’m going to bring the jobs back”, it taps into every psychological trigger they have: It validates both their pride and their victimhood as people who could earn a living if it hadn’t been for those [scapegoat of your choice].

That’s not to say that racism and misogyny aren’t a part of it- They absolutely are- But they’re expressions of the underlying fear and anger, not the cause of it.

Writing it off as such is a suicidally dangerous brand of arrogance.

Look at the maps.

People in urban areas vote blue. People in rural areas vote red.

On top of that, there are distinct cultural differences between parts of the country. It’s not about the dollar amounts, it’s the lifestyles and central values. Colin Woodward does a way better job explaining than I could.

Its similarly dangerous to think that Trump’s only racist hatemonger support comes from dead end small-towners.

Racists who love populist authoritarians are equally present everywhere, that he is a “man of small town, uneducated rural America” is the usual GOP narrative, not fact.
