When Dale died in 2019 the BBS thread clued me into his melding of middle-eastern music, but until then I had no idea that Dick Dale had Lebanese ancestry. Since then, a youtube dive led me to the knowledge that Misirlou was essentially a tribute to an Egyptian song.

This youtuber’s breakdown of learning the classic riff made me appreciate the song and it’s rhythms more than I had before
