The Mayor is setting these up in Philly.
The federal prosecutor tried to shut in down.
I’m surprised that the Medical/Insurance Lobby hasn’t managed to out spend the Law Enforcement Lobby to get the War on Drugs ended, so the drug trade can come under corporate control. I mean, there are billions to be made from managing the narco trade.
It isn’t working out so well with opiates.
And people can easily grow weed or fungi.
They can still cash in on treatment.
Active safe injection sites are saving non-theoretical lives right now.
The “potential” in “potential benefits” should be understood as what total amount of additional lives would be saved by more sites, not whether there are benefits. The benefits have been proven with every on-site overdose prevention.
Theoretical concerns always Trump actual lives. /s
He does know that there are other cases besides drug cases to beef up his conviction rate, right? [narrator: he didn’t know]
I think he knows that he’s a Republican Trump appointee from outside of Philadelphia. Delaware County I think. They were solidly R since the civil war - till this year’s election - now the D’s are in charge. Tough luck boyo.
We went through the same conservative (Prime Minister Harper’s Big ‘C’ Conservative Party) BS over the Insite safe injection facility run by Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. He tried to have it shut down by the courts repeatedly (and failed), using ‘evidence’ from Conservative bought and paid for ‘experts’ that had no actual understanding of the basic program or the issues surrounding it. Under the current government, these programs are expanding.
These citizens that aren’t dying because of these safe injection sites are people that have families, brothers, sisters, parents and sometimes children that love them and want them to stay alive and get treatment for their addiction. Safe injection sites are the first pillar in the ‘4 pillars’ rehabilitation program.
Recognizing that addiction is a public health issue as opposed to a moral one was something Harper et. al. seem incapable of.
Safe injection sites prevent overdoses. They get dirty needles off the street. They help direct people to treatment programs, or treatment for other issues, including communicable diseases.
Anyone who tries to simply shut them down doesn’t know how Public Health works or they do and it’s more important for them to appear “morally pure” than to actually give a shit about the lives of others.
“If we allow ambulances, that will only reduce people’s incentive to not fall down stairs!”
Yup, I work in a homeless shelter that has a safe consumption room. Lives saved, all the time, daily.
Thank you.
