A thread of our own- misogyny (Part 1)

Omfg. This doctor would rather cut the patient open in surgery instead of a short and safe transvaginal ultrasound because she hasn’t had sex?! WTF happened to minimizing harm?

“It’s this idea that no one should be sticking anything up there because it should be broken first by a penis…because I hadn’t had sex, the gynaecologist told me it wouldn’t be an option because it would be too painful for me, so it wouldn’t be something he’d be willing to carry out this stage. He said he could do a surgical investigation. I didn’t want surgery that could be unnecessary.”

ETA: also the idea the pain from the ultrasound would somehow be worse than surgery is ridiculous

Your comment made me read the article. Totally fucked up. They’re basically saying, “this might hurt, so if it’s going to hurt, it should be associated with sex, and not a voluntary medical procedure that might help in your diagnosis.”
WTF?
I read some old sci-fi ages ago where female babies had their hymens pierced at birth as part of the cleaning out the ears, etc. cleaning up loose ends, procedures. Got rid of the whole “purity” shit right out of the gate.

Virginity is a social construct with no biological reality, sometimes erroneously connected in women and those assigned female at birth to the presence of a hymen or their physical anatomy – which has long been debunked by the scientific community and challenged for perpetuating heteronormativity.

This is vital to understand.

  1. Presence or absence of a hymen has no relationship to sexual activity. If you are post-menarchal, the hymen is not intact. It cannot be in a normal physiological situation.
  2. The idea that only a penis can break the hymen is insane and goes against all medical and scientific wisdom. Where this came from is bizarre bordering on stupid. If she has used a tampon, she can have an US.
  3. Surgery instead of TVUS? WTAF?? Because she must be punished for not having sex? I cannot promise I would maintain professional equanimity if my wife or daughter was faced with insane shit like this!

Come on UK, be better than this.

You have to understand: she’s not being punished. On the contrary, the doctor is very helpfully making it possible for her to attract a husband, by maintaining her purity.

I think a lot of dudes like to imagine their dicks are something akin to Hellboy’s Right Hand of Doom, a mystically empowered appendage capable of opening a portal between different realms.

The scientists say previous research had mistaken the organs as scent glands or underdeveloped versions of penises, in a study that criticised the comparatively limited research into female sex organs.

I guess the lesson is that women shouldn’t feel left out. Male scientists can’t find the clitoris on anything female.

Well, the female orgasm is a myth, after all.
(I wish I could credit that idea to Ben Shapiro, because it very much fits his brand, but it very much predates him.)

Of course, SWM are the real victims. Always and every time. You wimmins and LGBTQs and Blacks just don’t understand what real oppression is like! Like, sometimes we say things and no one listens! Can you imagine?

This is obviously a horrific development but I honestly thought it had already happened before now given that they banned girls from attending school beyond the 6th grade as of last March. I would have assumed they’d start by banning women from higher education and then work their way down to primary school.
