A thread of our own- misogyny (Part 1)

That doesn’t sound ‘cold’, it sounds realistic to me; I was raised with the motto “If you don’t work, then you don’t eat” and it applied to everyone, no matter their gender.

Expecting anyone else to take care of you once you are grown was/is a recipe for failure.

Strikes me that aging in women is a double-edged sword?

Gonna cross-post this in the agism thread…

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

I’m in the ‘incredibly freeing’ crowd, and I was never one for much performative femininity in my youth so I didn’t even have those (few) advantages then.

Thanks, what a great example of the innumerable ways that so many men idiotically assume that women are inferior.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Biden administration cannot use a 1986 emergency care law to require doctors in Texas hospitals to provide abortions for women whose lives are at risk due to pregnancy, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday.

Virtually all hospitals receive federal funding. If they won’t follow a federal law, they don’t get federal money.

Except, who will that hurt? The people needing all sorts of medical care. The politicians will just go to the best hospitals in other states.

This is really shitty framing, if you ask me… “she should have known better”? WTF?
