So, a somewhat larger and better improvement on the Missile Command Trak-ball? (I have been wanting this for decades.)

I’m not convinced this is in any way an improvement on a big marble on rollers. If it had internal coils that were sensed by the base maybe

Since the person who made the item says it is not an improvement, it seems you’re right. 
That said, as a proof of concept for further investigation it’s pretty great.

This is a thing of beauty, which one day I will clean up a bit and use again:
I just wish it had slightly better build quality. The big clear marble has an LED behind it which flashes from green to red when you click the buttons.

I still dream of an arcade game that uses like a 4+ foot ball as a controller, where you need extra people for the best result. (just have to figure out how to avoid crushing hazards) That, and a game where you drive a car like anthropomorphized animals do in the movies, with an oversized car interior to climb on)
