I grew up in the mid-Atlantic, where I think boardwalks are more typical.

The owners have always claimed they didn’t have insurance- which is probably bollocks- but it was well known they wanted to make changes to the pier which the council opposed. Then we have the ‘accidental’ fire, and hey presto! A new look plastic fun palace.

If you’ve ever seen the movie version of Tommy, there’s a shot of one of these going up in flames near the end. It was not a special effect. The fire happened while they were shooting nearby, and the director decided to incorporate it into the movie.

No mention of Fleetwood pier burning down?
