Marshaling firewall rules and/or poking at webpage cached data aren’t distractions, right?
Noscripting it should eliminate that restriction right quick.

Agreed. And here’s what’s going to happen, and is even dumber-er: some enterprising young coder is going to build a browser extension that gets around this specific restriction, thus allowing you to READ WHILE WIFI IS ON!
