from Wikipedia:

Writer Annie Dillard viewed the eclipse from the Yakima Valley, in central Washington State. “I pray you will never see anything more awful in the sky.” Describing the reactions of other onlookers, she relates “I heard screams.”

Wow…sounds like a lot of people are going to be disappointed in a few days…!

“Battle deaths by world region” must be ignoring civilian deaths in conflicts. Which is kind of misleading when civilian deaths outnumber soldier deaths by orders of magnitude (e.g. Iraq war)… It paints a much less rosy picture.

A lot of people are, at their core, primitive animals. This will not change.

It will take a lot to educate society en masse to have us grow beyond reactions of rare natural events. In other words, it will be near impossible. We’re always going to have people who don’t understand.

I mean, just look at the flat earth movement in 2017. It’s shameful. Humans are not getting smarter as a species.
