Accused of sexually assaulting a child, Kevin Spacey would like you to know he's gay

I agree Rob, but I’m speaking going to bars, inviting guys to his table and hitting on them level of not caring who sees. His closet had no doors. He kissed guys in public. His statement only made it official.

The second bit of my comment is more troublesome, because he goes after people that are less powerful than him a lot. To the point of people warning each other about him.

Being a gay man I guess the only thing saving me is my general lack of desire to being around or talking to teenagers.

Is it really that hard to not molest kids?

I suspect that bit is suffering from poor wording. I presume he means that he’s chosen to out himself as a gay man. He likely was already living that life privately. But that is some really poor choice of words considering the scrutiny he’s currently under.

Something very similar happened to me in my freshman year in University. There was a party at this girl’s house, but contrary wise to the stereotype it was very low key, we were drinking and trading stories. Now, almost everyone in my group averaged 18, but there was this one guy in his 50s we nicknamed Grandpa. Some time around 3 am I get some sleepy and ask the host for a place to crash. She shows me a bedroom with a mattress in the back. I was almost sleeping when I jolt fully waken because someone is touching my body and find Grandpa by my side. I noped right back to the television room and spent the other 3 hours wide awake. It wasn’t only the age difference that felt gross. It was the fact that he made a wholesome gathering suddenly unsafe.

Having helped my fair share of baby dikes thrown out of home by their parents this bit made me so very angry. Asshole.

I am very sorry something like that happened to you. I have not been victimized myself but i do recall in my college years going to a party, drinking too much and flirting a lot with a girl i had a crush on who had a boyfriend. Some friends of mine called me out on it, and while I was heavily inebriated i can’t blame the alcohol for my actions and i’ve never forgotten it. I’m glad it didn’t go far but i find the situation deeply embarrassing.

Seems like Spacey is doing the opposite. Blames the alcohol, says he doesn’t remember what happened like it somehow absolves him from acting on his thoughts.

Got dammit; I’d like to go just one day without finding out that someone else is well known sexual predator.

Is really that hard to not be a creep, for fuck’s sake?!?

There’s so much wrong with damn near everything you wrote, it would take all day to unpack; so instead I’ll just give you a “high score:”

Seriously people, do you remember what you did drunk 30 years ago? I don’t. Saying he’s not sure if that happened is honest.

We need to stick to the “innocent until proven guilty” unless we want to end up in Trumps tweet court

Innocent until proven guilty is a principle of law. Courts/judges/prosecutors/jurors are obliged to adhere to it, or should be.

Bloggers and posters on the interwebs are under no such constraint.

You could theoretically get sued for slander in many countries.

But the fact it isn’t law doesn’t make it a bad rule, and I think the world would be a better place if more people stuck to it.

Just imagine tabloid headlines having to follow this😉

I think it is a very bad rule to live by in your personal life.

Even worse is to pull it out in defense of someone where we have beyond-a-reasonable-doubt-level of evidence that they did in fact do the thing. Imagine a trial for a simple assault (a punch in the face, say) where the only evidence is:

Eye witness: That guy punched me in the face.
Accused: I certainly can’t tell you I didn’t do that.

If you are on that jury and vote to acquit you have misunderstood what a “reasonable” doubt is. Of course then we’d have sworn testimony to go by, which we will never have in a news story, which sort of goes back to why this being a terrible standard to live your life by.

So… all those times he played a creepy guy… not acting.

Congratulations, you just defended someone that sexually harassed, and arguably tried to sexually assault, a minor.

You need proof? Ask the victim, he remembers very well. Not remembering you committed a crime that went unreported does not absolve guilt. Low key sounds like an excuse a rapist would give, that they were too drunk and therefore are not responsible for what their drunk selves did. Also the innocent until proven guilty is only applicable in court, which the victim is not trying to press charges, so i don’t need to hold off to see what the jury says. I fully believe the victim.

Not to mention the “bisexuals aren’t real” crowd. He’s had sex with men and women. He prefers men. You can be bisexual and have a stronger preference for one or the other!

I’ve been avoiding projects with Spaceys name on them for many years.
Quite frankly, he creeps me out, but not in a good way.
More of in a kind of Tom Hanks kind of way.
No disparagement meant of Mr. Hanks except that I avoid watching him as well.

Spacey can be a pretty fine actor, not that he’s one of my favorites but there are some movies he’s in that i like. Not necessarily because of his involvement in all instances, i think Seven for example might have worked just as well without him in his role.

Using the severity of the crime to justify assuming the accused is guilty is a logical fallacy

And yes, my priorities are firmly on the “It is better that ten guilty men go free than that one innocent man be convicted” side

I have also avoided things I don’t like

EDIT: which now includes this thread and the bullshit in it
