Chelmsford has a homeless camp and one of its local hospitals just shut down due to state inaction but sure, the governor’s time is best spent keeping a pet beaver from being returned to the wild.

One day, you know, that beaver tried to leave 'er so they chained it up with cyclone fence.

In sure the 5mins and $0 this took of the governor’s time and state budget would have solved that other problem.

Just apropos beavers, here is a delightful ditty called Beaver the Believer (which I’d go out on a limb and say nobody here has heard or if they have we could count you on the fingers of one hand).
It’s a live gig and the song itself does not start until 4.15 into the video, but the whimsical intro has a charm of its own.

I think people who are framing this as “preventing an animal from being released to the wild” may be missing the point. This beaver was orphaned and rescued as a kit; forcing her to fend for herself as an adult would likely be a death sentence. Even relocating an adult animal that is accustomed to fending for itself in the wild is a longshot.

Massachussets

Where is this Massachussets place?

Healey physically travelled to Chelmsford and met with the beaver. Way more than 5 minutes of her (and her staff’s) time.

Issuing a permit to save a beaver is easy and straightforward. Solving the homelessness crisis is difficult and complicated. It’s seems silly to say that the governor shouldn’t be allowed to do the former until solving the latter.
