INSTANT REBOING
Yes, two words can be a complete sentence
Well, 4 hours.
And the same image used in both on the front page. Surely, there’s an AI to prevent this sort of thing?
Nevermind the reboing, now I just want to try some of this cheese. I’ve had vegan cheese before and was not impressed; I’d like to find some that passes the non-vegan taste test.
eta: ‘No good cheese’ is one of the reasons I would have trouble going vegan.
From the other article I hadn’t realised it was blue cheese. I suppose that one is a bit easier to recreate because much of the taste comes from the mold culture and it’s strong enough to mask any unexpected flavours?
You are hereby commanded to have the same argument twice in one day.
I’ve eaten Vegan bacon. It’s not the same as real bacon but my wife, who went pescitarian decades ago, likes it. I’d give the Vegan cheese a try, though I’m perfectly happy with normal cheese. My wife hates blue cheese.
But for the incident, how many here would have even been aware of this ‘cheese’ maker?
… soon to be renamed Climax Streisand Effect Blue Cheese.
@anon87143080 is the relative cheesiness of vegan cheese on the list?
Done!
Just went through their entire website. Dozens of uses of the phrase “plant based”, and no mention of which plants.
Soy? Nuts? Peanut? Anything else likely to trigger an allergic response? Not rolling the dice on that.
The cultured vegan cheeses are the group of vegan cheeses that taste like dairy cheese. If you’re in America, Miyoko’s Creamery is the most available cultured vegan cheese.
I also recommend this website vegancheese(dot)co which is a big database of vegan cheeses with includes a lot of cultured cheeses. They also have a yearly cheese award with many different categories.
Rebel Cheese is another American cultured vegan cheese brand and they got two deals at Shark Tank.
If you live in the UK, I’ve heard high compliments about Cathedral City and Honestly Tasty.
As a former vegetarian (8 years) I like real and fake bacon. Both good, just in different ways. But I’ve never liked vegan cheese. I don’t even like real cheese all that much. Mozzarella is my favorite cheese, largely because its flavor is so subtle to begin with.
There are lots of delicious meat substitutes, but one thing that’s always bothered me is the lack of dishes in American food (and even just foreign cuisine interpreted for an American consumer) that celebrate vegetables as they are. I’m not even a big fruit eater—my favorite food is pasta, especially when it incorporates squash. My favorite vegetable is broccoli. Carrots are a close second.
Meat and it’s substitutes don’t always have to be the star of a dish.
Way to give Blue Climax free publicity. I probably never would have heard of this company if there hadn’t been one written. The dairy industry is also crying about almond milk. There are many vegans and vegetarians and lots meat substitutes out there and meat industries seem to be doing just fine. Almond milk and a decent tasting bleu cheeese isn’t going to bring the dairy industry to its knees.
Yeppers. I prefer to eat real meat but less of it, to help save the ecosphere and what’s left of my health.
I’ve been trying to persuade my wife to eat more purely vegetarian dishes (made by me) but she’s strangely reluctant, even though when I manage to sneak one under her radar she usually enjoys it.
reportedly due to issues around one of the ingredients (kokum butter) not having GRAS certification.
I think this statement is a lot more important than they are making it sound. As I understand it, you can’t just sell things as food without a GRAS assesment. It’s an FDA requirment.
Barbra
Or Streisand Climax, the Effect of Vegan Blue Cheese.
All things are possible in the world of Cheese.
Because it was a cheese contest, not a steak contest.
Managed to bring transphobia into a discussion of cheese. Sigh. I suggest you read the rules
