For the record Rescue Rangers grossed 675,000 at the box office. So, yeah even compared to other direct to streaming releases with comparable budgets, this was a flop. You also have no evidence that they had a large increase around that time, because they are comparatively closed lips about actual subscriber counts, not being part of a publicly traded company, but rather being a dedicated propaganda mill. What we do know is that they released subscriber counts in July (890,000) and November (crossed a million).
Let’s be generous and assume that all of those people came purely for that movie. The budget was $75,000,000 and subscriptions are $14/month. They would be looking at almost four years to recoup the budget, if every new subscriber stays on and incurs zero costs. That is a failure too.
If you want to get deeper into the business angle, it probably hurt them more than the budget because they’ve shown there is no secret untapped market for this type of bigot spite watch, so their next round of funding will probably be harder.
