Allahu Akbar!

You can keep on discussing by building your arguments out of my assumed contradictions and puttying them by confusing personal and general ideologies, this is leading nowhere. I’ve already said what you wrote above, only with other words. What I mean to say is: you have not expressed a single genuine idea so far. All you did was either trying to deconstuct mine or rephrase what I already stated.

So what you say here is that there was an accusation of misogyny after I commented millifink’s take on the video?

This is actually the first time you expressed an idea without including some level of personal attack. But I already said that: we are talking about two different concepts of ideology: the personal ideology which is, as I aready said, the motor of any artistic action and the general ideology which is, in my own ideology, the antagonist of any artistic creation since the time when art was emancipated from religious and social governance, and the beginning of modern art.

Isn’t it the Somalis who chew the khat?

Aw geeze - I got my illicit drugs mixed up. Though there is some khat in Afghanistan, hashish is what many Afghan soldiers commonly use.

My reaction to this was that it was a comment on combat and collateral damage generally, and on American cultural imperialism, and that the combatants could as easily have been any group of freedom fighters, of any affiliation, anywhere. Were I shooting it, I think I’d have substituted glossolalia for the dialog, particularly for “Allahu Akbar”, to emphasize that disconnection… but the choice of a particular culture wasn’t especially significant to me as a viewer.

Your mileage will vary.

Right, on face value it doesn’t seem to have whole lot to say…

But judging from the sensibility of his earlier stuff and the fact that he’s been well-known for quite a while, I’m thinking he’s playing for the reaction more than anything.

The spluttering mess goFlow made above was pretty entertaining, you have to admit. And if you get one of those, you might consequently get the kind of discussion about the issues involved that has the power to untangle the head wiring of annoying glitchy people.

That’s good art in my book. But most of it’s context; the fact that it’s by Banksy is an inextricable element. The bar is lowered in a very real way for someone in his shoes; you can call every gesture a comment on society when enough people are watching you.

I’m of the pretty firm opinion we need these professional smartarses to pull such gotchyas on stupid people frequently.

Ummmmmm… Yeah. I think Edward would like a word.
