Amazing Andean Architecture

WOW! Just stunning.

Created by the Bolivian architect Freddy Mamani these buildings sit in an already beautiful city of El Alto (above), just outside of La Paz.

These photographs and more are currently on display at Fondation Cartier in Paris.

“In the last 18 years, my practice has been trying to introduce a colour to El Alto,” said Mamani.

It’s working.

These are beautiful and viscerally refreshing. I love that the architect found ways to be startlingly original while still making efficient use of the space, in contrast to some other attempts at architectural originality that end up looking like injection-molded concrete brain-teasers.
