Wow! Don’t know how true it was but when I was stationed in England during the 70’s, the joke was there are only 5 McDonald’s in London and we knew where each one was.
I was in Tokyo, then Osaka on business for perhaps 11 days one July. It was HOT, over 90F! Local custom be damned, I was not going to be like Japanese salarymen who wear wool suits all year. I and the rest of my group wore shorts when we played tourist evenings and on the weekend. I didn’t get side-eyed even once.
Brit here, as soon as milder weather started in Japan around March onwards I switched to living in shorts - but I did have the advantage of being on a career break.
Heh, on my first trip to Japan with my son we had to travel in August as he was still at school. Tokyo was hot, sticky and occasionally very rainy.
September marked him moving up to 6th form (final 2 years of school in the UK, aged 17), and he could ditch school uniform in exchange for a suit. So we went to a branch of “The Suit Factory” near Akihabara and acquired a couple of nice ones.
Unfortunately, in summer they sell very lightweight summer suits. So by cold and rainy UK January he was complaining bitterly that he was fkn freezing
Many moons ago, my roommate and I took a summer to tour around Australia. Both of us worked at Pizza Hut, so one of our first stops was at a local Hut to see what was different. Aside from chopped hard boiled egg on the 'za, not much change.
It’s not lying. Everyone knows that you’re supposed to measure to the top of the tallest part of the structure. It’s not my fault if it’s not all useable floor area.
