The rounds that I can find used in the US are all subsonic.
My bad. I didn’t mean to imply that currently available “rubber bullets” are supersonic. To my knowledge (which is somewhat limited as a non-shotgun person [more of a target rifle/pistol guy]), the available “less than lethal” rounds are all subsonic.
My point was that even the smallest and most innocuous mass, if traveling fast enough, will cause some gnarly damage upon sudden deceleration upon or within a body. That’s why there’s a pretty big energy difference between a .22 short and a .22 swift.
