(That said, nobody expects you to watch test cricket as your first time. Get yourself to a nice, exciting 3 hour T20 match or an ODI, those only last a day)

Yes - some research into other materials might be useful. The rubber compound used is extremely dense - but behaves very consistently in a given temperature range.

My understanding that the puck in hockey and the ball in cricket is very hard for two reasons, the speed/distance and that it can f***ing hurt if played wrong
