Laura Branigan’s “Gloria”

Or Umberto Tozzi’s…

I’m a fan of Angel Olsen and I live in St, Louis, somehow I was not aware that she was from St. Louis.

She is covering Gloria, of course she is from St. Louis. I don’t even know why I needed to go to Wikipedia to look it up.

Eeehhhhh… I dunno. There is a thing where people take a popular song, slow it way down, and usually minimize the number of instruments. It usually completely changes the tone and mood of the familiar song, and IMO, sucks the fun out of it. It comes off as overly dramatic and angsty. Or trying to be dark when the lyrics rarely line up with the mood.

Occasionally it works, but not in the case, for me at least. YMMV, if you like it, glad you found something you like.

For the rest of us, ear cleanse with the original. (ETA - er, the English cover of the original.)

Put me down as a nope.

This is Umberto Tozzi’s song, not L Branigan.
I was a teenager (in Italy) when it first came out in 1979.
