That’s right. It’s not that these parallel evolutionary processes have happened over the last century, it’s that the studies of them have been done over the past century.

Crabs are known not to have good table manners.

Just think of all the crab shaped hobby robots out there. The blocky body makes it easy to position a microcontroller, battery and servos. The short limbs are easy to articulate. The low center of gravity makes the robot passively stable.

All of these arguments apply to living tissue as well.
