I think you’re probably absolutely right. Also though, since we’re comparing email stories, I feel like journalists were much more justified in covering the Clinton emails seeing as it was an announcement from the FBI, not a rumour and some dubious screenshots circulated by political opponents. Who the sources are matters.
That article is dated dec 2016. A little late I would say. And yes, I was looking. I was also reading and watching democracy now, reading foreign affairs and jacobin and the left press from Latin America as I do. I found plenty of criticism of Obama’s policies, but not so much in the hegemonic press of our own country. The window has shifted since then though. I’m hopeful that we will all be critical of those in power no matter their party affiliation. Of course I felt that the right wing press was unfair to Obama but that’s par for the course. I grew up in Texas and was frequently spit on and beat up for being Mexican. I never thought a Black President was possible, much less one elected twice.
Since posting a comment on this thread( posting comments is not my forte) I’ve spent time reading Greenwalds older screeds and I get why people ( my mom included ) are through with him. I would just say a few things in his defense ( which he probably doesn’t deserve)-
I think his skepticism of “ Russian “ involvement is correct, but only in that I agree with Masha Gessen that it would be more useful to talk about WHICH Russians are interfering in our politics, rather than referring to the Russian state. We have no problem referring to Russian Oligarchs, yet seem to not contend with what an oligarchy really is.
Also, I would suggest that if people actually did take the Hunter Biden emails seriously, and investigate their provenance and “ discovery” in more detail we may actually get closer to knowing which oligarchs are behind them. My guess is they are closer to home.
I feel like the constant focus on Russia lets a lot of local bad actors off the hook.
Also, Glen and the Intercept broke a story of enormous importance in Brazil whose ramifications are still playing out and may very well lead to his death. Another boing boing comment asked what critical writing has he (glen)done lately, and I would point them to Brazil. Actually we should all be watching Brazil. Their weaponized right wing judiciary is what we are facing. I fear for the safety of all journalists in Brazil, but he seems especially precarious. Thanks for responding to my posted comment. I hope the next four years bring you more peace and happiness than the previous four. Take care
He really is a douchepuddle
it’s literally the news media’s job to censor bullshit that doesn’t matter
that’s the whole difference between “news” and everything else
Since when was criticising the right wing of the Democrats ‘arguing against progressives?’
I mean, I think Glenn is in the wrong here but there is something about the presumption that the venal and putrifying Dems represent anything ‘progressive’ that chills me to my core. It becomes easy to understand Thallman’s error when faced with the open fabrication by which the Democrats lay claim to ‘the left of centre’ position.
I can’t help but see…
…and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt
This is what I’d call “arguing against progressives”
Only if you consider “normalizing fascism” as an argument against progressives! /s
