I listened to your excellent interview with Leo Laporte and the discussion about DRM audiobooks was pretty interesting to me.

I tried to imagine why Audible insists on DRM for everything. A cynical person might think it’s to maintain control and lock-in, but I’m not especially cynical. I’m guessing that maybe their asset pipeline has no way of skipping the DRM application step and adding an exception for some books is a non-trivial amount of effort.

Alternatively, I wonder if some of their older hardware players don’t work with MP3 files? I’m guessing they don’t want to deal with customer support issues around audiobooks that won’t play on the Audible player.

I had such a crush on Tara, not that it was age or gender appropriate.
