I agree that there is room for a wide range of design styles and that different styles actual lend themselves to different applications, whether buildings or laptops. Different styles have their places.
As far as IBM goes, their thinkpads are the durable utilitarian workhorses of the tech world and people sing their praises from far and wide.

The aluminum top units that might have something to do with power do have more than whiff of “brutalist” concrete to them.
