I agree with all this. I’m a linux user and prefer it to microsoft or apple.
But most school systems would turn to google for support instead of some of the other organizations that offer help or support for linux, because it’s a big, branded name that everyone will recognize. Most people know android more than they know linux. Which is sad, of course.
Agreed. Note that I’m not the sys admin in my home either. I’d be pretty lost and to rely on others if my better half wasn’t a linux user on the regular. He keeps our digital trains running on time.
But you totally can. It’s not a panacea. Just because it’s open doesn’t mean it’s any good. Just because something is closed doesn’t mean it’s bad. Good software is good software, bad software is bad. I’ve used bad open source software, fo’ shizzle.
Naturally, Linux hasn’t been easy to use for regular joe since forever though it does appear to be more user friendly these days than in the past. Nothing is a magical fix because i’m sure smarter people than me have tackled this, but given the choice between Apple/Google and Linux in a school setting i think i’d go with Linux.
