Umm…okay…
Brings new meaning to, “gotta go fast!”.
pocket supercomputers we already have.
I’m not saying this to start a forum riot, just my personal opinion. I really wonder what the cellphone market would look like if we had the current kind of pocket computers with the general level of societal tech integration of the early 2000’s.
I have a hard time imagining most of the computer people I knew in 2000 being okay with having a locked down system. Obviously there is the flip side of it - it just works. That is more of the modern day divide that I see. Either I love Apple because it works or I love Android (or whatever rooted system of choice you want) because I can do what I want.
Are they still holding tight on the JIT compilation related restrictions that make all but the more undemanding emulation cases so slow as to be largely theoretical?
I guess it’s nice that we can finally buy thin clients powerful enough to move certain edge compute costs from providers onto ourselves; but that doesn’t really feel like supercomputing.
It’s also a matter of when you choose the scale.
One step closer to fulfilling my dream of playing Yar’s Revenge on my iPhone!
Me, when I saw that image: “I’ve clearly spent too much time on the internet.”* I guess I’m not the only one.
Technically, since RetroArch is available on the iPhone App Store, and RetroArch has the Stella emulator for Atari 2600 games, you can play Yar’s Revenge today. You just need a Yar’s Revenge rom file. You can get that here: Myrient | Content Listing
And many years ago, Atari actually had an app that let you play a catalog of Atari 2600 and other games on the iPhone. Sadly, because it was a 32-bit app, it’s no longer available today, but there was a day where you could play Yar’s Revenge on your phone many years ago.
I was just making a joke, but thanks for the info.
