I’d just like to note that guns are not the only hobby that can hurt people. I like board games. I like going out and singing with people. Two years ago things suddenly changed so that indulging in those would be putting lives at risk. I stopped doing them. It was sad, but some things are more important.

Point taken, especially as someone who has also been avoiding potential contagion as best I can.
That said, gunshot wounds kill and maim a helluva lot faster than Covid does.
Both are causes of needless death that are/were highly preventable…

The game playing wasn’t the dangerous act-it was doing it in the same room as others. Plenty of games occurred over the internets during the last two years.
And if you gave up those hobbies because they were too dangerous to indulge them, why not guns? After all, you have claimed that you do not need them in any serious sense, using them for shooting targets and other types of games.
