The writers could have made up any name for Stiller’s character, but they chose to name him Fast Eddie Felcher
And Ted Nugent! (Although not an unknown.) (And then I’m watching the clip for the episode with Helena Bonham Carter, and the opening credits finish with “and Brad Dourif”. Holy cow.)
Yes, but did any of them get a chance to say, “What do you say we guys go down to the beach, and shoot some clams?”
Miles Davis, Leonard Cohen, and James Brown also showed their faces in MV.
Came for Cohen.
Frank Zappa too.
Not to forget Frank (weasel dust) Zappa
I’ve been watching the first seasons of Law and Order, and aside from realizing that I really really need a Lt Van Buren in my day-to-day life, to help me know what leads to follow up on when, I’ve been enjoying the hell out of seeing virtually every one of my favorite characters from The Wire (and other HBO shows) when they were moonlighting as young perps or shady defence council.
A fairly comprehensive list of interesting folks who appeared in Miami Vice:
G. Gordon Liddy
Haing S. Ngor (from “The Killing Fields”)
Mark Linn-Baker (Larry from “Perfect Strangers”)
Tommy Chong (of Cheech & Chong fame)
Charles S. Dutton
Helena Bonham Carter
Lou Diamond Phillips
Benicio Del Toro
R. Lee Ermey
Edward James Olmos
I’ve just started watching The Wire myself, and frankly, every other cop show I’ve ever seen pales in comparison.
“The Shield” is also quite good and should not be missed.
