Attempted Coup in the United States: Tracking Investigations and Fallout

They both tried to get trials of their own, but were denied that.

This is indeed my point.

Not great news for those who wanted Trump to face trial sooner than later but not really unexpected. It really would be a logistical nightmare to group everyone into a single big trial, especially when the people charged are likely to have adversarial defenses (i.e., “don’t blame me, blame him.”)

That seems like the best reason to group them together. Don’t leave someone holding the bag because of the vagaries of scheduling, make sure they’re ALL holding it.

From what I take from it, this doesn’t rule out an October trial but rather just that it won’t be the same October trial as CheeseBro and Kraken.

If all those January 6 insurrectionists’ trials are any indication then I don’t think trying them separately is likely to help any of their cases anyway, it just means the process is going to take a little longer.

St Cyr did not take any responsibility for what she did at the Capitol and likened her alleged suffering to the agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, where the Bible says Jesus experienced great anguish but accepted God’s will before he was betrayed, arrested and crucified.

Annnd a collective righting of lazy boy chairs could be heard from space…

Did MAGA Jesus just pull back the curtain for millions of knuckle dragging ‘muricans?

No, ma’am. You did not do the right thing…

Bet that’s gonna play as exhibit one in his trial.

Probably not. That would feed right into the false claim he’s being prosecuted for protected speech. The trial needs to focus on actions in order to shut the 1A bullshit defense down hard.

I don’t know. He’s admitting direct responsibility here. He can’t credibly shift blame on to others. He really hurt himself here.

He might have to take the stand to
respond to this. And this is what he would look like on the stand.

Definitely. But it seems more like something to put in late in the trial if his lawyer claims he was misled by counsel or something like that. In which case, yeah, he’d have to get on the stand to refute the interview, and that would end up like the trial in A Few Good Men pretty quickly.

… nobody in the Aaron Sorkin universe is as inarticulate as Trump

As of Friday, all three Marines were still on active-duty status, according to the Marine Corps.

…why?

Because I have no idea about American military culture: is the Marine Corps the branch that is most likely to be loyal to the fascist and proto-fascist forces? I hear the Air Force is very evangelical, but does that translate into support for that sorta thing? And whom do Space Force and the Coast Guard support?

Yes, but thats a coincidence here.

I expect that since they were on trial they were retained on active duty so they could be processed under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) also. I expect the USMC will issue further charges now under article 134, which is a catch-all article for indiscretions not specifically captured elsewhere in the UCMJ.
