BC town votes to install imaginary GPS trackers in criminals

As an engineer, I recommend super-gluing mobile phones to their foreheads.

Awesome. If Wilits has some ā€œNazcaā€ like lines nearby then it and Nelson, BC are long lost brothers

We are talking about Williams Lake here, not one of the remote hamlets of crazy. Donā€™t get too frisky in your characterizations.

They do have an excellent swimming pool.

Better than I could have hoped for

True, it does have a rodeo. Oh and Rick Hanson is from there.

[quote=ā€œAcerPlatanoides, post:38, topic:74298, full:trueā€]Same people though. Same humanity, different clothes.

Also, I lived in Willits CA for a spell. Iā€™ve seen the rodeo.

Maybe not; seriously remote towns are something special.

In my neighbourhood (i.e. only a few thousand km away), thereā€™s a town called Andamooka. To get to it, you follow the Stuart Highway through the desert until you reach Woomera (where the Brits tested their nukes in the '50ā€™s), then turn east through the uranium mining towns of Roxby Downs and Olympic Dam.

At the end of that road is Andamooka.

Itā€™s an opal mining town. But, unlike the other outback opal towns (Lightning Ridge, Coober Pedy), the locals donā€™t live underground to shelter from the 50+C heat. Instead, they live in a collection of broken-down vehicles and corrugated iron shanties.

Andamooka is so small that it has no local police presence. Instead, once a month, a ā€œlocumā€ cop visits the town. When he does, the population drops by two-thirds, as a large percentage of the local people are there because they have outstanding warrants.

Full-throttle Mad Max country.

Nonsense. You simply legally require them to be plugged in at all times. Want to go shopping, be prepared to have a lot of extension cords.

Hopefully the constitution will nip this one in the bud, although truthfully I donā€™t remember a section against legislation passed by idiots.
