Oh, that poor woman. That’s just awful.

Tragedy aside I take this as a sign that Belk hasn’t exactly been fastidious about their restroom cleaning schedule lately.

I could make a crack about how she was probably the only person there since it was a department store in 2022, but this is just very sad. My condolences to Ms. Durham’s family.

Predatory capitalism at it’s worst.
Good job america, good work ‘the south’
you’ve succeeded in proving, by showing us that you don’t think your workers have souls, that YOU have no soul.

Well in their defence, their janitor just died?

It is remarkable that (apparently) nobody wondered why the bathroom was closed for cleaning for so long, or why nothing else was getting cleaned, or why they hadn’t seen the janitor lately…

Can we not? It’s not just the south, it’s the whole country.

Initially, I wanted to post the clip from Clerks, but after reading the whole story, I stopped seeing humor here. It just seems tragic and frustraing.

It was the family bathroom per the USA Today article, so both a mens and womens room should have been available.

It may also have been the power of a “Closed for Cleaning” sign. I expect the replacement cleaning crew reported for work on Monday.

I hope she did not suffer long. I had to get into a friends apartment when he did not answer phones and door. He suffered from a stroke and he could have been down for 2 days. Still alive but no quality of life after 3 years.

What?
This was just a tragic and lonely death. It’s not some statement about capitalism. I’m no fan, but even I can see that.
What makes you think the same thing couldn’t happen under socialism or communism or any other ism?

ETA - @Mindysan33 - right? It’s everywhere, our system totally sucks, but also, this isn’t really an example of that, to me. The delivery drivers throwing up from heat stroke while shareholders get dividends and CEOs get huge bonuses is more an example of that. :woman_shrugging:t2:

Sadly it’s not the first time

Look down upon us in ‘righteous judgment’, not; the higher the perch you place yourself upon, the harder the crash will be when you fall.

I remember reading about that one! Man, I can’t imagine how they wouldn’t tear the place apart looking for the smell…

It’s not unusual for many of us single people to not have our remains discovered for several days. No one to report you missing.
