Put your child into the hands of religious fundies and you risk living out a parent’s worst nightmare.

Maybe an extended cut of The Exorcist should include Max von Sydow’s character’s collection of nudie mags to bring him more in line with real exorcists.

Medical treatment in Biblical times wasn’t all that advanced or… good.

Unless, sadly, the parents agree with that nonsense.

Theodoric of York, medieval camp counselor, would be a safer option than these Bible-thumping clowns.

I’m thinking porn addict is the least worthy of a spot in the headline out of this list of employee liabilities…

My paternal grandfather had to go to a ‘pensionnat’ when he was 8-12 years old. This place, like a lot of institutions for children back in the day, was “managed” by religious figures called ‘Les Oblats’. A pensionnat is like a boarding school for boys where you get education by the Catholic church. Yes, it is the same type of establishment where Natives were forcibly assimilated. Anyhoo. One day my granddad was playing hockey outside and got a stick right in the forehead, probably the recoil from a slapshot. He fell in a coma.
The ‘Oblats’ placed him in bed and did not report anything for fear of losing their precious reputations (and probably also because they panicked). The hospitals and health ‘system’ was also “managed” by the Clergy at that time. They could have transfered him or called for a doctor. Nope. He was in a coma for 10 fooken days.
At the age of 70, he got a stroke in the area where he had received the stick, and was left paralyzed on his left side for two years, until he died.

Darnit, Carla, where’s the juice about the curative violence and porn? Three lefts to make a right (failing all else, including sanity throws)! Where the forced perspective mosh pits in the Canadian Scene these days? Mirrored floor barefoot jumping for e’ybody!

I was just seeing someone suggesting that the end result of Republican efforts to create a theocracy was witch-burning, and thinking that was a tad far-fetched, but no, I don’t really think it is. Current Christian conservatism is full-on Mediæval.

That sounds like some sexual predator behavior, and reading the rest of the article, whoo boy, there are a bunch of other red flags that suggest he’s dangerous. I guess when you’re that fucked up - and recognize it - the more extreme versions of Christianity hold the most appeal, and the more extreme the better.

Yeah, that really worries me. It could have been something quite serious - and medical aid was deliberately withheld, potentially during a crucial period, making it even worse. That’s going to bother me for a while, and I don’t expect there will ever be more information that comes out, so we’ll never know.

And to think that, as kids, we used to joke about priests and choirboys! Now, it’s not a laughing matter, not even close! :rage:
