ISTR that Robin Williams was greatly influenced by Jonathan Winters. An acquaintance of mine had an uncle that refused to talk about his time as a marine in the second world war, except to describe his buddy, Jonathan Winters, playing with an invisible yoyo in his off time.

Robin Williams always said how he idolized Winters, and when they worked together, you could tell. Even Robin had trouble keeping up.
One of my favorite examples was when they were both on Carson at the same time. You can see Johnny just realize he was a guest on his own show.
