The TL;DR theory is that fishing boat and the Humpback were after the same concentration of fish, and the breaching/swallowing (come from below) behavior of the whale’s feeding pattern thereby nearby caused an unintended collision. That is, no need to posit Moby’s revenge (yet … see Orcas off Spain) Sorta surprising that this doesn’t happen all-the-time; credit to whale cunning maneuverability mayhaps

That is not what I expected when I read “fishing boat”. Around here they look like this. The headline makes more sense now.
