Actually, if you read the story, you find that the MPs are not “exempting” themselves at all - indeed the journalist admits at the end that it’s impossible for them to do so. The only difference is that a warrant to spy on them personally will have to be approved by the Prime Minister rather than a Minister as for everyone else. That’s a difference of procedure but its certainly not an “exemption.”
