On average, a 17 foot truck long will clear. And a 20 foot long truck will still be screwed. The truck that pealed its top still looks rather tall.

Yeah, that truck is still gonna hit. The protective beam is at least 12" high, and that truck was a good 2" taller than the top of the beam.
