To me it looks like a box inside a sphere with a very hard shadow cast that was accentuated by the photocopying process to make it look like a letter C. A box inside a sphere doing unexplainable maneuvers without any heat signature.

Why yes, I expect they would hope that. And yet it’s the kind of hope that no one sane (I know, high expectations) would ever voice if the thing in question were actually uninteresting.
