I think you put too much emphasis on sex.
I’ve seen many a hot girl walk by with not so much as a glance in her direction by players.
It’s just another retail job really. Everybody who has ever worked behind the counter has stories of shitty customers. You will have to deal with shitty people, but occasionally a lucky winner will toss you a couple of big chips.
There’s always Wall Street!
How or why? Casino employees are paid shit because casino owners and operators are thieves who treat their employees like cattle so they can make more money. Why was there ever a question?
How has someone not invented a chip washing machine? Hello, Shark Tank?
You would think that dealers should be the best paid employees in the casino to prevent them working with another player to cheat. $5 an hour would lead to many unhappy workers IMO.
Casino owners may be shits, but in NY casino employees are paid actual wages $12-$15 an hour.
I don’t think anyone deserves sub-minimum wages - waitresses shouldn’t have to live or die by the tips. (I do tip 15%-20% but I’m against it.)
Oh, they exist; a quick googling reveals a few models, as well as services that do it for you. I think the previous poster was just complaining that some casinos (like the one they work at) are too damn cheap to spend absolutely any amount of money at all on doing anything about disgusting, dirty chips.
And @Gary_DarkFlite_White & @jandrese
I’ve never played cards in a casino, but I’ve been to several “Casino Night” events with professional dealers. They handle the cards with skill (not trivial) but most importantly, they teach players about the games. A significant portion of the folks who go to casinos are noobs and need to learn the card games, and it’s up to the dealer to teach them the basics. If you’ve never played blackjack before and the dealer teaches you how, and maybe gives you some pointers to improve your play, it makes sense to tip them.
If I brought wipes and started cleaning my chips would you be entertained or annoyed?
I’m not sure how (or why) a dealer would cheat for a player. The casino doesn’t trust dealers any more than players.
Been in only 2 casino’s. Both times set 20$ limit, won a bit, almost lost it all, got back to 20$ and cashed out, one time ahead 50cents.
If they stabbed them with a fork, did they leave their knife somewhere? Like in an alligator?
I’m 98% sure that every patron of that casino knows that all of those behaviors are absolutely wrong (with the possible exception of the tipping), yet they do it anyway. We all do terrible things through accident or ignorance, but why do people choose to be assholes, and how do they live with themselves?
I suppose that’s better than the alternative, which is me picturing the interaction like Rodney Dangerfield in Caddyshack: Hey, keep it fair, keep it fair.
Coincidentally, I happened to go to a casino this afternoon. They are not healthy places. 90% of the people there either smoke like chimneys, or are wearing oxygen tanks because they spent their lives smoking like chimneys.
Depends on the game. Many poker rooms allow phone at the table. IIRC it’s just not allowed when in a hand. People listen to podcasts but theoretically could be getting relayed info from a 3rd party. I was honestly surprised it’s so loose, but I don’t say anything because I find that people who dick around with their phones don’t pay attention to other people’s betting patterns. I can be mindful of who bluffs, who plays tight, etc and play a better game that someone who solely relies on the math of the strength of their hand.
Isn’t that illegal?
In some states, it’s a specific crime to view “obscene or offensive material” which basically means anything you need to be 18+ to view in public wo the consent of all involved.
And here I thought that the were periodically swapped out to prevent counterfeiting them.
What an awful sounding place!
If the ethical quandaries, customers, and kitsch windowless aesthetic of casinos pose no problem I can recommend the bigger ones in Australia as much more reasonable workplaces.
I started with over $20ph, got paid training, decent bosses, good perks and 2 swipes-ins per shift of the biggest restaurants I have ever seen just for staff. We were told employees gained on average 3 or 5 kilo’s (depending on sex) in their first year!
