People really shouldn’t let their cats wander outside.
A friend of mine did that to her cat years ago only it turned out to be mainly footage inside various neighbours houses so she stopped.

Think it wasn’t video actually but stills (it was ages ago so memory, on the camera, not me) but the point stands!
Yeah there was a similar video doing the rounds a few years back, and it just showed the cat terrorizing birds.
My walks would be very boring if they didn’t. Met this cutie today and I meet cats pretty much every time I go out. For the record, here in Europe cats have been wandering outside for at least two millennia. They’re a part of the ecosystem, just like foxes or hawks.
In many countries they are not part of the ecosystem though and are causing real impact on bird and small animal populations. New Zealand and Australia are both starting to put restrictions on letting your cat out at night.
I love seeing the cats in the neighbourhood when wandering around too but we don’t let our own cat outside unsupervised, even if it means we need to spend extra time on the porch watching her. Next time we own a place (currently renting) we will definitely build a catio for her.
Yes, in certain new world countries. That doesn’t justify a blanket statement like
Sigh. Fine. In urban and suburban America, people should not let their cats roam outside. They get run over by cars and decimate the bird population.
… are obviously special cases — almost all placental mammals are invasive there
