What a clever cat… aside from wandering off in Yellowstone, of course.
I’m mostly impressed that the cat made it through NV, but i’m glad they’re safe and back with its family
Trying to understand why you’d bring a cat camping, especially somewhere that’s known to have bears.
Glad Rayne Beau is OK, but his humans need to do better.
I think bringing a cat camping/hiking isn’t that unusual, and if the cat is used to going outside with its people i think that can be a good thing for its mental stimulation and staying active. But i would be concerned about predators or the cat getting spooked and running into the wild. I would keep them leashed at all times for safety.
Or… Cat escaped in Roseville. They only assumed the cat escaped once they got to the park.
yeah, I was wondering that too. Perhaps he was hiding in the car when they were looking for him and he got out when they stopped for gas in Roseville. Still happy that he is safely back with his peeps.
Also, the cat is a predator too, so it’s not just the cat’s safety that you need to worry about. Even with that weight loss the cat must’ve eaten at least a few wild critters during its 900 mile journey.
The cat that used to live in my house with the previous owners disappeared in the exact same park under the same camping circumstances. Sadly, that cat didn’t make it home.
Happy for the owners and the kitty here!
I don’t know. Maybe if the family had made that trip with that cat multiple times, it had some sense of where it was in relation to home? It sounds unlikely on its surface, but there have been so many of these “pet finds way home” stories that I can believe he wandered off in Yellowstone, and then tried to get home. Usually it’s dogs doing this, but nature can be pretty fucking metal.
They can be aware of that. I once accompanied my friend when he took his cat to a sitter who lived about an hour away. I noticed that the cat was looking out the window the whole time, paying close attention to the trip. My friend said he did that every time, probably so he could find his way home.
Whatever happened, this was an … incredible journey.
Goddamn. That cat crossed the desert.
His name is Caine…

They should check for cars stolen in Yellowstone and showing up in California.
I see what you did there.
It didn’t make it all the way, but it was clearly … homeward bound.
The article states that he ran away in Yellowstone:
Benny and Susanne Anguiano and their two cats arrived at Yellowstone’s Fishing Bridge RV Park on June 4 for the cats’ first trip to the forest. But soon after they arrived, Rayne Beau was startled and ran into the nearby trees.
and thats exactly what happend (hai there @anon58741709)
