Oblig. “Oh No Ross and Carrie” also did an extensive series on this a while back, which also led to numerous more in-depth interviews with or discussions about (when they would not agree to an interview) various hucksters, shyster and fraudsters they encountered there.

Honestly, too many to link to, so here is a link to the show at large

It’s always a quick slide from New-Age woo peddlers to those hawking far-right conspiracies for a certain kind of mark. Fascism is always a grift, promising glory for some and inevitably delivering misery to all.

While posting it I imagined both of us at our keyboards racing to mention ONRAC!

I just love their approach to this stuff. They call out woo for what it is, but never forget that these are real people, mostly with good intentions and trying to make their way like all of us. Skeptical media tends to lean too hard in the “look how stupid these people are” direction (Brian Dunning comes to mind) and that’s exhausting.

In some cases, especially the followers, but they are also completely unafraid to call out the ones that are not (Hi Teal Swan! Feel seen!).

And of course, they way that they do it. They will go the the seminars, take the ayahuasca (the tincture is much stronger!), join the cult, or whatever to get a real inside perspective instead of just doing research on the internet. It’s original (1/2 amateur, but what even is a journalist today?) investigative journalism, which really sets it apart

What never fails to impress me is the patience, empathy and at the same time pushback that they bring to it - especially Carrie’s one on one interviews. Honestly, I would just die from frustration halfway through some of them! It’s truly a singular show! Come for Scientology investigation, stay for annual “psychic predictions for the past year” reviews!

Jewelry which protects you from 5G? I wonder how that works?
I’m guessing it doesn’t. 5G appears to have done something to these people.

Misread this at first & thought it was about the Butthole Surfers.
No surprise that a QAnon contingent was there… WTF benefit comes from having a sunburned sphincter? Or scrotum, for that matter?

It’s because if you actually believe in this hokum, you are probably so crazy that no-one would ever want to call you.

Yah for sure. They don’t suffer fools at all, and they don’t let anyone get away with anything. Especially when someone is clearly an actual scam artist. But they’re really good at separating that from, say, the flat earthers who are clearly emotionally wounded people grasping for some community and something to help them cope with a complicated life. It’s a very humanist approach to rational thought.

I’ve never wished butthole sun poisoning on anyone before. Enjoy the blisters!

He’d probably be insulted by the implication that he’s doing anything other than decomposing quietly in a matter wholly consistent with the laws of nature.
