Great find on that link. Thanks for sharing!

I was interested to learn that the germicide pill is pushed down into the empty pouch they’ve eaten, to prevent old remnants of food from growing mold or bacteria. Makes sense, since you can’t take out the trash in space. Well…. I guess you can do it once.

To address the additional concern of free-floating crumbs, cubed meals like the cheese sandwiches were coated in gelatin.

That is the most 60s thing I have ever heard. Home cooks at the time probably did that anyway
