And so fun to see the obvious origin of (IMO) the funniest scene in “I’m gonna git you, sucka.”

he and Joan both mentioned that he was a regular at the Comic Strip. I somehow missed this first tv appearance, but Fox also broadcast Comic Strip Live and that was where I first saw Rock. the performance was notable because he blew the punchline on his final joke. teenage me was like “well, this guy is not ready for prime time.” next thing I know, he was an SNL cast member (and awesome.) I have a VHS with some of his “I’m Chill’n” sketches and it was in regular rotation with my roommates. his issue as guest editor for Vibe is also brilliant.
