Christmas is under attack: vandals steal Satanic Temple's tree-topper from San Jose's Christmas in the Park event

Baphomet is the reason for the season!

Aren’t they both atheist?

a) It was attended, and b) you mean like all the other decorations that are out there?

More than Christ, certainly. I’m always amused by the “Jesus - he’s the reason for the season!” because that’s demonstrably not the case.

Eh, I don’t know if you can say that. Yes, it was tied originally to a pagan holiday, but for a long time Christmas was primarily a Christian holiday celebrated by Christians, even if some of the traditions were borrowed from other places.

Stuff like this is organic and changes due to cultural differences and various traditions intermingling.

Certainly one can say it isn’t the ONLY reason for the season.

I among many others would love to have that statue. Wouldn’t worship it and have to keep it out of the sight of my many religious relatives. Can you imagine the fun your pals would have using it to curse the opposition while watching the sports.
Complete madness putting it in a public area, like decorating a tree with $100 bills.

Certainly the religious affiliation for almost all holidays has changed many times over the centuries, but the “reason for the season” is ultimately the Winter Solstice. Moreover, the “Jesus is the reason for the season” people are saying that in response to commercialism taking over the holiday. (i.e. “You’ve all forgotten the real reason for the holiday…”) So if the “reason for the season” is whatever people are celebrating at that moment, then it is, according to their own objection, commercialism now. If one is saying we need to remember the “true origins” of the holiday, for a holiday that’s completely pagan in its trappings and celebrations, except for some recently shoe-horned in elements, the true origins are pagan through-and-through. Either way, saying that “Jesus is the reason for the season” is clearly not the case.

I bought a scull projector this year and then realized that even I would be tempted if I saw one outside at night and I’ve already got one.

Well, they do have a pretty nice gift shop. I’ve been coveting their very nicely designed membership cards for a while, but it looks like they went and added in t-shirts, hoodies, etc. Though they don’t (yet) have any statues, they do have some candles that would be perfect for ironic ritual cursing. Though they should really add in the statue, too.
I’m realizing I really need to do some Yule shopping there…

Everyone has religious freedom!! Anyone from any faith is allowed to worship jesus here on public property - we don’t discriminate or favor one religion over others!!

Regardless to any mass appropriation, or who chose to celebrate it, the phrase fallaciously implies that “the season’s” origin started with the birth of Christ, which it didn’t; the ritual observations of Saturnalia and Yule predate the existence of Christ by hundreds of years, at least.

Maybe this guy saw something?

Jesus died for our sins, so we must sin or it was in vain.

And what the romans had came from the Greeks, and what mythology the Greeks and most of the rest of the western and middle worlds came from mithraism/zoroastrianism.

The upside-down-cross chandelier was a nice touch.

That’s how she decorated?

I heard it was all gaudy red, gold and green, and simply didn’t care enough to go look.

Holy hell, guys, a simple webtube search can answer all your questions. While I support the work of the Satanic Temple, I personally identify as Pastafarian when overly bothered by the religionists, and tell the truth of being atheist in more honest company.

I’m sure they fully expected it to be stolen.

The point of the exercise is proving that Christianity is repressive and evil. Every time something like this happens a few more people believe them. It’s all part of the joke.
