Is it really “short-term” though? He’s been keeping this grift going for decades and even now that it’s been exposed it seems unlikely he will get hit with any consequences harsher than some relatively modest tax penalties.

I doubt he got those expensive gifts because of his sparkling personality. Unless the donors like to hang out with a bitter, scowling guy who looks like he’s permanently constipated and who only perks up when talking about porn.

Since failing to report income from criminal activities became the tax evasion charges that ultimately brought down Al Capone, Thomas should similarly be held to account for failing to disclose his unreported bribes.

this. will. never. happen.

He’ll face nothing but more undisclosed gifts.

OMG…STOP illustrating your stories with MidJourney. That “photorealistic” rendering of a white-haired Idi Amin with a deformed lobster claw for a hand in a cloud of smoldering dollar bills gives me the creeps.

If we elect enough Democrats to Congress, he can face actual punishment. The motherfucker can be impeached. He should be impeached. Even if he ends up acquitted, he should be impeached. It will stain his reputation even further, and if the threat of it seems likely enough, given his age, he might just resign to avoid having that impeachment as part of his legacy. We have to stop acting so godammed defeatist all the time. Things damn sure won’t ever change if we stop trying.

Not to mention that it’s made with a program that plagiarizes (in an unacknowledged and unpaid manner) the work of actual artists. :slightly_frowning_face:

That’s the proper objection. The creepiness is intended. Because Thomas is creepy.

Before Midjourney, Boingboing editors were using handmade creepy photoshops for story illustrations.

This. Even if nothing else, it’s important for the long-term precedent/demonstration that we can and will do so.

I would like boingboing to take a stand. Either return to photoshopped stock photography where we know a person (whether the original photographer, illustrator, or an editor of your own) was compensated for the work, or an AI generator that demonstrably has been trained from only CC0 public domain works.

Wow, allegations of tax fraud. Well, you can allege that I am a loudmouth, all you like. At least I will admit it! :point_up_2:t2:

Is that really him?

Sometimes I wonder why I spend time online anymore. How can I tell that anything I see or read is true?

(And are those leopards just about ready to eat his face?)

Miss just one feeding and see what happens…

And, those - believe it or not - WERE EVEN CREEPIER!

Okay, I zoomed the fingers, and their fucked-upness gives it away.

Very clever composition!

But of course, I wish a real artist had painted it.

As my dad always says, “If you kill somebody, you might get away with it, but if you don’t pay your taxes, you’re going to jail.” That said, I don’t know if he took into account the fact that the Supreme Court justices now seem to be untouchable in a royal family kinda way.
