Can’t tell from the video/article where this happened but from the terrain it looks like it was somewhere near Engineer Mountain on the Animas river - between Ouray and Silverton near Durango. There are dozens of old mining/jeep trails up there with sheer cliff drop offs.
Used to go 4-wheeling up there back in the day and had more than a few “oh shit!” moments where I was all but certain I was about to go meet Jesus.
This guy should go buy a lottery ticket. Very rarely do you have a deep pool of water conveniently located to break your fall. Usually there is nothing but sharp rocks and a shallow stream. Your only hope is that you die on impact otherwise you’ll suffer a miserable death via hypothermia before someone comes around and finds you.
