Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 1)

Not surprised this is the scene in Paulding… Jesus, I know a kid who goes to a school there. Fuck.

Glad you spoke up right away. I got the smallpox vaccine, but after all this time and without any exposure in the meantime, I doubt even oldsters like me would be safe if smallpox were unleashed on the world again. And certainly no one under 50 (55?) would be safe.

The same with chickenpox, I think.

That was one of a few examples that came to mind when I was trying to think of a herd-immune pandemic disease, but I don’t think they qualify. If our statistics for Covid resembled even the pre-vaccine years, (100 deaths out of 4 million illnesses) we wouldn’t even be talking about it.

… and if the statistics for the “kid” diseases had looked like Covid, I kinda doubt parents would have sent us to sleepovers. I don’t remember anyone crying “herd immunity” over Polio.

I’m under 50 and I got the vaccine. My parents apparently went to some trouble to get it for me. Supposedly, even after they found a doctor who could provide it, he was real reluctant to.

The “herd immunity” people are hoping Covid-19 goes wherever the Spanish Flu went

I guess keeping the old farts angry and glued to the tv set has helped keep Fox afloat during the pandemic

McSally ran for election to the Senate claiming that her opponent was going to gut the ACA and Medicare — in exactly the ways McSally had voted to gut the ACA and Medicare while she was in the House. And which, as relatively conservative as Sinema is, was patently nonsense.

Let’s hope her pathetic lying serves her as well as it did in that race (she lost, but was appointed to McCain’s seat on his death: Ducey spitting in the face of McCain’s family to suck up to Trump).

Mayor of a city in southern Brazil suggests insufflating ozone gas in the rectum of citizens for the treatment of Coronavirus.

I had to edit. I’ve found a better verb for this unproven procedure.

I’d say, “You first”, but that’s probably his kink.

É sério!

Okay, needed to double check and make sure it wasn’t a joke…

He has already sponsored the use of homeopathy, vermifuge medicine and camphor as prevention methods and adopted a type of antibiotic as prophylaxis.

Now, in an interview, he said that 10 applications of gas through the anus could be the silver bullet against the virus.

Oh, by the way he is also a doctor.

Well, I am 55 and never got the smallpox vaccine. I know folks (a bit) younger than me who did. Somewhere in that range it stopped being routine.

He must probably disdain demonic possessions.

He prefers cutting edge technology!

Down on all fours, I’d guess.

Eradication is not the same as herd immunity, and smallpox vaccinations require boosters every 10 years. The CDC doesn’t recommend vaccination unless you’re in a high risk group for getting it (which isn’t many of us). There is a national smallpox stockpile, but if there was an outbreak I’d imagine that most of us wouldn’t be able to take advantage of it.

I already corrected myself downthread. We eradicated it by having herd immunity. We don’t have herd immunity any more.
