Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 1)

At least the consistently deep-pink column under the US suggests those polled in the US are aware of just how horrifically we’re fucking this up compared to everyone else, no matter what :peach::hole: says. Silver lining?

I thought maybe, well… not to be completely disrespectful to Smashmouth, but, perhaps a motorcycle rally in the middle of an epidemic might not have given them a lot to choose from…

I do like “Walkin on the Sun” quite a bit. Not really Hell’s Angels fare, I wouldn’t think though…

Still, you can see the effect of the cognitive dissonance from the poll number for China. -4? Really? A country with almost 5x the population has under 5,000 deaths from COVID-19, but Americans perceive their handling of the pandemic as only slightly better? Even if you’re skeptical about that number (with good reason), quadruple it and, numerically, they’ve still handled it much, much better than the US.

There was a big article the other day from a restaurant owner in Delco. He gave all the usual pro-business talking points about how the government is out to destroy his livelihood as well as longtime staff members he’s had to let go. I wish that his supporters (and potential customers) would read these:

I hope so, but some people will still vote for him, because maybe they see him as killing the “right” people or at the very least doing “good work” for the “pro-life” movement.

Yeah, but they took away their citizen’s freedums and released the disease on the rest of the world, so… /s

And they spread 250,000 cases at a cost to us of ““BIB BUCKS””

Must Re Open Schools!! (zombie growl)

" From Aug. 20 to Sept. 3, there were 70,630 cases reported among children — an increase of 16 percent — bringing the national total to 513,415. The largest increases were reported in six states: Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.

As many as 103 children have died, according to the report."

Anybody notice a pattern to these states?

When the assholes spew nonsense like this:

“Can you ensure Dr. Fauci indicates masks are for the teachers in schools. Not for children,” Alexander wrote. “There is no data, none, zero, across the entire world, that shows children especially young children, spread this virus to other children, or to adults or to their teachers. None. And if it did occur, the risk is essentially zero,” he continued — adding without evidence that children take influenza home, but not the coronavirus."

It is time to completely disregard their lying asses altogether. I don’t have time to repost all the research that puts the lie to this shit, but I am sure Dr. Fauci is very familiar with it.

No. Not disregard them.

Kick them out of office, make it impossible for them ever to work in anything health-related, never ever let them come into any position to influence policies again. This guy must leave.

It is one thing to be stupid. But this is pathological. This is someone who believes he is in the right while being unable to parse available information.

What an arseholes!

There are never any consequences once you reach that level. Ever.

“We can’t be vindictive! We can’t have investigations! Then every time the government changes there will be investigations!” – Some asshole who lived through the Clinton era but somehow doesn’t remember any of it except “penis”.

It’s About Ethics in Covid Journalism

Thumbsuckers about “journalistic ethic” rarely hit on what normal human beings would consider to be ethical questions.

so woodward had a taped interview from march where trump said that covid is much worse than the flu and that the official message about it was false, and he sat on it for six months, is that right

Much as I would love to have a leisurely meal out - it’s take out only for me for now.

There are nearly 200000 people dead already. There are more who have been severely ill, and a percentage of them will probably have live-long health issues. They have families. They have friends.

As things are, I would not be surprised if vigilantism would be one result of all those clusterfucks.

I hate this, because it is essentially a slippery slope further towards fascism. But I wouldn’t be surprised at all.

And now they are all just statistics. What’s important is that people treat wealthy elites with respect and civility.

Sounds like Notre Dame also has a handle on it, and that’s a much bigger campus population than Duke.

Here’s the money quote from the article:

“It’s easy to blame students who are partying or socializing, because it takes the blame away from the leaders who reopen and puts it on the students,” he said. “And that’s where the problem lies.”

I’m not sure the Sturgis motorcycle rally is exactly "Hell’s Angels”, if that’s what you’re saying…

From USA Today:

What is Sturgis?

The rally may be known for rowdy, drunken and naked shenanigans, but in recent years longtime attendees complain it has lost its edge.

First-time visitors might be excused for thinking the rally isn’t much more than an excuse to create one of the world’s largest open-air shopping malls. There’s usually corporate sponsorships, licensed T-shirt vendors, insurance companies and lawyers.

Most attendees in recent years are professionals with too much to lose if they get arrested. The top three professions at Sturgis are doctors, lawyers and accountants, city officials have said in previous years.

I had a coworker who used to go to Sturgis with her husband and kids. They didn’t have motorcycles. They just liked to attend the events and people-watch, be entertained, enjoy the crowds, the music, the food. To listen to her describe it, it sounded a lot like going to the State Fair (which they did every year also).
