Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 1)

Right now, there is a literal mariachi band in a neighbor’s yard two blocks away playing Summertime Blues en Espanol.

Despite all the smoke, the terrible air quality, and the pandemic.

I hate this stupid timeline so damn much…

Also odd, because while most disasters like earthquakes or hurricanes are reported in terms of confirmed dead, I remember the death count for 9/11 mostly being reported in terms of feared dead and then coming down as the facts were settled. Is that a false memory? All I found was a story about Giulani ordering 10000 body bags…though either way that doesn’t really make it sound like he was trying to keep people from knowing the real toll.

I’m surprised he knew that he was going to stiff all the 9/11 first responders of healthcare benefits so soon…

Wow! That is some scary stuff. Pointing a trumpet at an audience is pretty much like spraying them with an aerosole fire hose.

That isn’t a false memory. I don’t recall what Rudy J. said, but I remember that morning newscasters saying that something like 50,000 people worked in and around the buildings, with many more visitors. They were predicting death counts far higher than 3,000.

Can’t dispute the efficiency of being able to both dismiss the covid pandemic and BLM at the same time. Why not just toss an anti-choice rider on the bill at the same time, go for the trifecta?

I wonder which teams will make it to the Extinction Bowl?

It’s interesting how the major news networks cover counts of coronavirus in the US. I usually see the total number of deaths reported alone - without the total number of cases. If the total number of cases is reported, it is next to the total number of cases worldwide (without reflecting the percentage).

Local newspapers emphasize counts of new cases over total cases, and break down counts by county. The figures for those who have “recovered” tends to show up near any large figure. I wonder how much of this causes some folks to think efforts to slow the spread are overblown or that this is not a huge problem.

JFC WTAF:

“Just like the flu” huh?

Cult45 should be tried in a world tribunal for crimes against humanity.

ETA: for any virologists et alia reading this, do other viruses that humans fall ill with also perform similarly? or have we [as a species] entered a whole new frontier?

I don’t know if you’ve already tackled this, an in case you are in a financial position to consider… but… FWIW…

The first filter is from this recommendation, in the smoke-fire zone on the West Coast:

The second filter is heavy, expensive, hard to haul around bc it is bulky, but it does an excellent job with fast turnover. I bought one in 2010 for my mom’s very asthmatic and elderly next door neighbor, who survived internment as a child at Heart Mountain…

… and was the person who called an ambulance for my mom, saving her life.

Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, meanwhile, has not held an in-person Cabinet meeting since February. The Capitol in Tallahassee has remained shut to the public, despite DeSantis’ rabid efforts to reopen schools and loosen restrictions on businesses throughout Florida in the middle of a raging pandemic.

geez. what are they doing right?

we’ve got a near 30% in some places.

actually, my snark aside aside, it’s interesting to note how much better the us is doing overall than just a few months ago. leaps and bounds better. it gives me some hope actually. minds can be changed. ( some minds anyway )

With the politicization of simple public health, I expect that there will be stores that have a no-mask policy, as well as Karen/Kens that freak out over other people wearing masks.
