Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 1)

I don’t even think the Ratel kit got a cartoon band-aid, just one of the little circular ones. He was freaked out because the nurse came to our car (never has a problem in getting shots in the office), but then refused to have the band-aid taken off for about four days. I had to carefully scrub around it in the bathtub to keep the water from dissolving the glue, a process he apparently understands.

I’d argue that they are still around, but most of the US major outlets (TV networks, newspaper chains, etc.) are owned by the folks who are aligned with the administration’s response. That leaves us with a distribution problem. What other means can be used to get those stories being reported in front of as many eyeballs as possible? If most of these anti-mask folks are getting their news from social media, that’s one option.

He sounds like a trooper. These are freaky times to visit the doc even for us olds.

I think we have journalists, but the profit-driven news bonanza has ground them down. And we also have propaganda shills.

Why does every article about #&ckerberg make me think of The Shadow Over Innsmouth?

Because he’s got that “fishy” look of the villagers?

Getting our flu shot tomorrow at a pharmacy. Kid had her’s last week and is thrilled we agreed she could come watch. Poor thing had three shots in her legs, total of 5 vaccines, bc of the recommended vaccine schedule. She spent most of the day after walking like an 80 year old and complaining mightily of how much her legs hurt.

ETA: she got my little pony and shiny silver bandaids.

Aww. Those are the best part aside from not getting sick, or as sick. Sounds like he liked what he got though and handled an odd situation well. Ours refused bandaid removal until her skin got upset :unamused: “yes, those itchy red bumps are because you wouldn’t let us take off the bandaids!” Ah, consequences.

I was at the pharmacy this evening getting a tetanus booster (pinky finger meeting pruning shears), and there was a couple of a certain age there ahead of me nervously waiting to get their flu shots. She was nervous-talking: they hadn’t gotten flu shots in years but felt it was really important this year because of the pandemic and they lived just across the state line where there is no mask ordinance so they’ve been coming here to shop and have I ever had a flu shot? I quelled my introvert tendencies and told her I get one every year, no big deal for me, maybe an achy arm for a day or so, it helps even if you do get the flu, and so on, until the pharmacist was ready to do the jabs. It was heartening to see someone listening to the public health advice and actually changing their “normal” pre-Covid behavior accordingly.

That’s awesome. Thank you for quelling your introvert tendencies (I quite seriously know how that feels) and thank you for sharing that vignette.

Because this is the Trump Presidency, within 24 hours:

“In a stunning reversal of course, Trump says he and the First Lady will lick the nose of the next 100,000 voters who swear an oath of fealty to them forever. The line of lifted diesel pickup trucks on Pennsylvania Avenue stretches as far as the eye can see…”

He is the fucking commander in chief. He could order them to wear masks if he wanted.
